Sarah brings her brilliance and warmth to Awakenings!
Why did you make healthcare your life’s work?
I grew up in a medical family, my father was a WWII army doctor in Europe and mother was a RN. I had experience (Uncle Don was a veterinarian) helping treat small animals as a child and later my horse, Tony, as a teenager. I decided after years of working as a professional in the horse world, that I would like to become an acupuncturist to help people feel better. It has been a very rewarding career for me. Also my father helped me set up my business and guided me through difficult medical cases. I still have a number of medical professionals in my inner circle and I like to tell my patients that they don’t just get me, you get my whole family.

What led you to becoming an acupuncturist?

One of Sarah’s four-legged friends!
Yesterday at senior badminton practice, one of my friends had an ocular migraine headache and I used acupressure to resolve it in 12 minutes and taught her what to do if it happens again, and she returned to playing again. It is always a learning experience in my world.
What do you feel is your specialty? Other areas?
I would say that sports medicine is one of my best specialties, but also stress and emotional issues.
I like to guide my patients to achieve their best sleep, digestion and have good lifestyle choices. I have a realistic approach to changing habits, you didn’t get this way in 2 weeks, so it is a process to regain your optimal health. We will work together to resolve your chief complaint.

How has acupuncture benefited you personally?
Acupuncture has absolutely saved me on several occasions. One time was when I was in acupuncture school and I had a bad fall off a horse and could barely walk. After an acupuncture treatment, I got up off the table and was 80 % better and the next morning I could walk normally.

Tell us about what you love to do when you are not making life better for your patients?
I have always loved animals and being outdoors my whole life. Horses have always been a part of my life. And I rescued a puppy 2 years ago and enjoy walking Tinkerbell a few miles every day. I enjoy attempting to play my 5 string banjo and going to music festivals. I volunteer with Pinecone every year for the Raleigh Wide Open festival in downtown Raleigh in October, please come, it’s free.

Let’s all join Sarah at Pinecone this year!
